Minister Inspects Projects In The Western Region

The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea paid a 3 day working visit to the Western region to inspect the status of the sea defence being undertaken at Nkontompo, Adwoa and Aboadze.
The Hon Minister, in the company of his two deputy Ministers, Hon. Freda Prempeh, Hon. Eugene Antwi and other officials also visited Axim to see firsthand the effects of tidal waves along the coastline.
Addressing the people after the inspection, the Hon Minister assured the chiefs and people of Axim that, efforts will be made for the Axim coastal sea defence to begin.

He said, the coastal areas in the Western region apart from being abound in fish stock was also endowed with beautiful beaches that had huge economic and tourism potential for people and country as a whole and therefore needed to be protected.

The Minister observed that, the area was under siege in his remarks speaking to the media “if we do not work on the sea defence project at Brawire and Axim, the beaches will continue to destroy including the road infrastructure. If we secure the shore at Axim, the investment will come”.
Addressing the media, the Hon Minister lamented that not immediately working on the sea defence project at Brawire and Axim could lead to the destruction of houses and even roads. Private partnership arrangement where contractors pre-finance these project.
According to the Western regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, the region has most of the country’s resources including cocoa, gold and rubber and therefore any investment made in the region was justified.
The chiefs on their part commended the Hon Minister for Works and Housing for taking interest in the issue of sea issue at Axim.
