34th Annual General Meeting and Symposium of Shelter Afrique Opened

President John Dramani Mahama has today opened the 34th Annual General Meeting  and Symposium of Shelter Afrique in Ghana.The Financial Institution Shelter Afrique, is made up of 44 Africa Countries including Ghana.

The President said Ghana was committed to reducing the housing deficit and will contiune to collaborate with other stakeholders including Shelter Afrique to providing affordable housing for the people.

The Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing  commended Shelter Afrique for supporting Ghana and the opportunity to host the Annual General Meeting.

Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister’s Maiden Meeting with Development Partners in WASH.

Hon. Dr. Kwaku Agyemang- Mensah has charged  Development Partners (DPs) in the Water and Sanitation Sector to work together to promote harmonisation in the sector since it has become the major challenge.
He also observed that the sector’s financing, started facing challenges following the attainment of Middle Income status by Ghana. “Sector financing has been dwindling because Overseas Development Agencies’ support is drying up”, he added.
The Minister stressed that the situation has led to a serious challenge to meeting targets and thus the collective goal of the sector.
Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah re-echoed that the nation still need the support of the DPs since the population keeps growing and the water facilities keep ageing.
 This is the time that these facilities need expansion, rehabilitation and replacement, he pointed out.
The Sector lead, David Duncan welcomed the call by the Hon. Minister adding that they will work at supporting Ghana in Her development agenda.

President Inaugurate Teshie- Nungua Desalination Water Project

H. E John Dramani Mahama has on Friday 17th April, 2015 commissioned the Teshie- Nungua Desalination Water project.

The project which involves the desalination of sea produces 13 million gallons of water a day and is serving about 500,000 people in Teshie, Nungua, the Teshie Military barracks, Baatsona, Sakumono and parts of La- Dadekotopon.

The project was executed by Messrs. Befessa at a cost of one Hundred and Fifteen Thousand million dollars($115,000.00).

The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing Dr. Kweku Agyemang- Mensah, urged the people to have confidence in the President as he fulfilled his electoral promises.

The Nungua Mantse, Nii Odehe Kwak pa Odaifio We lensing III, said "the phenomenon of thecommunities battling with the problem of water supply is now over, thanks to sea desalination project".

He said without unity of purpose, the determination by the Ministry in improving deliverables in the Water, Housing and Works sectors will not materialised.
The Minister stated this when the outgoing Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing Alhaji Collins Duada handed over the mantle of leadership to him at a brief ceremony held at the Ministry yesterday.
Present at the ceremony were the Hon. Deputy Minister, Hon. Ahi Sampson, Chief Director Alhaji Ziblim Yakubu, Heads of Agencies and Departments, Directors and Senior officers of the Ministry.
In a statement, the outgoing Minister Alhaji Collins Duada said, a lot has been achieved during his two year tenure at the Ministry and asked staff of the Ministry to double their effort in supporting the current Minister to succeed.
He mentioned the support he enjoyed during his stay at the Ministry adding that “I was very proud working with you”.
Oh behalf of the staff, Alhaji Ziblim Yakubu express thanks to the outgoing Minister for his patience and love for staff and pledged unwavering support to the New Minister.

National Housing Policy Launched

The first National Housing Policy (NHP) to facilitate the provision of decent, safe and affordable houses to all has been launched in Accra. It will also provide an enabling environment for the private sector to intensify its leading role in the provision of safe affordable houses.

It will also outline measures to address those bottlenecks to include the promotion of greater private sector participation in housing delivery, investment in rental housing, promoting housing schemes that maximises land utilisation and making housing programmes more accessible to the poor.

Launching the Policy, the outgoing Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing Alhaji Collins Duada said the Policy which has been on the drawing board for the past 20 years has finally come to stay in view of the extensive and deliberative steps taken to ensure that a consensus was reached.
