Sakumono Sea Defence Project Completed

On Wednesday, 9th September, 2015, Messrs Amandi Holding Limited, contractors of the Sakumono Sea Defence Project handed over Phase II of the Project to the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing.
Due to strong tidal waves, the beach along the Sakumono Costal Stretch was eroding at an alarming rate which resulted in the narrowing of the strip of land between the shoreline and the railway line posing great threat to the Accra-Tema Railway Line.
The Sakumono Sea Defence Project was divided into two Phases: Phase I covered 2,000 metres of land between the beach and the railway line. Work commenced in October, 2011 and was completed in December, 2012.
Phase II covered 3,000 metres, stretching from the Nungua-Tema beach road to the Maritime University. There was the reclamation of lands to facilitate fishing activities. This phase started in June, 2013 and was completed within a period of two years.
During the handing over ceremony, Hon. Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing commended the contractors for the quality work done and for delivering on time.
The cost of the entire project was USD $60,000,000.00.

Work Begins on Blekusu Sea Defence Project

Hon. Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah has cut sod for the commencement of the 4,300 metre Blekusu Sea Defence project in the Volta Region. The beach along the Blekusu coastal stretch has been eroding at an alarming rate due to intense wave action. This situation poses great threat to life and property and therefore necessitated the construction of a Sea Defence wall.

The Hon. Minister, addressing the community during a mini durbar, indicated how important it was for Government to begin this project.

Messrs Amandi Holding Limited has been given the mandate by the Ministry to construct the Sea Defence project within a period of nineteen (19) months at cost of Forty Million dollars ($40,000,000.00).

The Hon. Minister together with Hon Fiifi Kwetey, the Minister of Food and Agriculture (MP for Ketu South) and Hon. Richard Quarshigah, MP for Ketu North paid a courtesy call on the Awomefia of Anlo, Togbui Sri III who commended the Government for embarking on the project.

Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister Inspect Projects In The Northern Regions

The Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing is on a 3- day working visit to the  Northern region to acquaint himself with developments in the regions particularly with water supply.

On Monday the Minister visited the Yendi water works in view of the water shortage that hit the area and assured of the expansion of the facility. He is expected to inspect works  at the Damango, Bole and the newly constructed Wa water supply project.

The Minister will wrap-up his 3 day tour in Bolga where he will call on the Regional Minsiter and inspect site for the newly awarded Navrongo water supply project.

34th Annual General Meeting and Symposium of Shelter Afrique Opened

President John Dramani Mahama has today opened the 34th Annual General Meeting  and Symposium of Shelter Afrique in Ghana.The Financial Institution Shelter Afrique, is made up of 44 Africa Countries including Ghana.

The President said Ghana was committed to reducing the housing deficit and will contiune to collaborate with other stakeholders including Shelter Afrique to providing affordable housing for the people.

The Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing  commended Shelter Afrique for supporting Ghana and the opportunity to host the Annual General Meeting.

Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister’s Maiden Meeting with Development Partners in WASH.

Hon. Dr. Kwaku Agyemang- Mensah has charged  Development Partners (DPs) in the Water and Sanitation Sector to work together to promote harmonisation in the sector since it has become the major challenge.
He also observed that the sector’s financing, started facing challenges following the attainment of Middle Income status by Ghana. “Sector financing has been dwindling because Overseas Development Agencies’ support is drying up”, he added.
The Minister stressed that the situation has led to a serious challenge to meeting targets and thus the collective goal of the sector.
Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah re-echoed that the nation still need the support of the DPs since the population keeps growing and the water facilities keep ageing.
 This is the time that these facilities need expansion, rehabilitation and replacement, he pointed out.
The Sector lead, David Duncan welcomed the call by the Hon. Minister adding that they will work at supporting Ghana in Her development agenda.
